Goan-origin Mumbai based Caroline Fernandes representing India, has made an outstanding mark at the World Skate Games 2024 in the Roller Derby category. The event, held in Italy from September 18 to 22, saw fierce competition from top teams across the globe.

The United States claimed the first place, showcasing their dominance in the sport, while Australia secured the second spot. In a thrilling face-off for the third position, India triumphed over China, earning the bronze medal, a historic achievement for the country.

"Caroline Fernandes is my daughter," said Qatar-based Francis Fernandes, who has been based in Qatar for the last 35 years in a message to the members of the Qatar Goans Whatsapp group.

Incidentally Caroline's elder sister works for Qatar Airways while Caroline occasionally visits Qatar, informed Francis, who traces his roots to Anjuna but his family is based in Mumbai.

Caroline Fernandes journey to the World Skate Games was a result of a rigorous selection process conducted by the Roller Skating Federation of India. Demonstrating exceptional skill and determination, she was selected to represent the nation and underwent extensive training to prepare for the international stage. She participated in three intensive training camps held in Chandigarh, Coimbatore, and Delhi, where she honed her skills alongside the best in the country.

Her performance at the World Skate Games 2024 is a testament to her dedication and the growing prominence of Roller Derby in India. Caroline's achievement brings pride to the nation and highlights the potential of Indian athletes on the global stage.

She was training under Pushpendra Kumar Singh and Adesh Singh.
