Deepvihar Primary School celebrates ninth biennial sports day


PANAJI

Deepvihar Primary School recently celebrated its ninth biennial sports day, focusing on promoting physical fitness, teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship among students.

The event began with a guard of honor by pre-primary students, followed by a disciplined march past by students of Std III and IV. The Sports Torch was lit, and a torch relay was held with participants excelling in Chess, Karate, and Football. This was followed by a mass drill performed by Std III and IV students.

The event featured colorful drills, including the Honey Bee drill, Umbrella drill, and a drill highlighting the effects of technology. These drills delivered messages about living life to the fullest, diversity, harmony, and the importance of building meaningful relationships. Yoga, self-defense, and a pyramid display emphasizing mental discipline, concentration, agility, flexibility, physical awareness, trust, confidence, and coordination were also showcased.

Unique races included the Flag Race, Stacking Rings, Balancing Act, and Bowlegged Ball Race for pre-primary students. Primary students participated in Mixed Obstacle Races, and track and field events such as the 40m dash for Std III and the 50m dash for Std IV. The popular House Relay event brought the crowd to life with excitement.

The Chief Guest, Capt. S.R. Pattanayak, Deputy Conservator of Mormugao Port Authority, stressed the importance of playing games and limiting social media use. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Dharmendra Prabhudessai, an Ayurvedic and Family Physician, shared his experience as an ex-student and encouraged students to embrace childhood through games and sports.

Tr. In-charge Elvi Sequeira highlighted the school’s activities throughout the academic year, and Manager Shri Rameshwar Kubal addressed the gathering.

Meritorious students were recognized for their academic achievements, while winners of races and track events received medals and certificates. The Rolling Trophy was awarded to Emerald (Green) House, and Topaz (Yellow) House was honored as the best March Past Platoon.

The program was compered by Michelle Caiado, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Smt. Alva Braganza.
