Dempo Sports Club is gearing up for a highly competitive season in the I-League, with aspirations of challenging the best teams in the country. Head coach Samir Naik, speaking about the upcoming campaign, expressed optimism and determination, fueled by the unwavering support of the club’s president, Srinivas Dempo.

“We are excited about the new season and the opportunities ahead. With the backing of our president, we aim to achieve top results and make a strong push in the I-League,” said Naik, who is focused on guiding the team to success.

Dempo, one of Goa’s most successful football clubs, has won the I-League title a record five times. Naik, however, is keen on leaving past glories behind and focusing on the present and future. “We need to stay focused on each fixture and face the challenges that lie ahead. It’s important that we learn from the past, but our goal is to perform well in the I-League and strive for the title, with the ultimate ambition of qualifying for the Indian Super League (ISL),” he added.

Naik acknowledged that significant changes have taken place within the squad, with several new signings both domestically and from abroad. As a result, he faces the challenging task of building chemistry and a cohesive team. “It won’t be easy, especially with a new team, but I’m committed to starting from scratch and working with these players to deliver the best results,” Naik said.

One of the key challenges for the team is the absence of attacking midfielder Necio Fernandes, who will be sidelined for two months following knee surgery. Despite this setback, Naik remains confident in the strength of his squad, promising to give his best to secure positive results for Dempo.

With the I-League now operating under a promotion-relegation system with I-League 2, Dempo faces heightened competition. However, Naik is undeterred. “Every day is a new day, and thinking about pressure is counterproductive. We trust the process, trust the team, and trust ourselves. This team has great potential, and while challenges are inevitable, we are not burdened by pressure,” Naik said, emphasizing the importance of sticking to their plan and trusting in their abilities.

Looking ahead, Naik expressed confidence in the younger players coming through at Dempo. “The young talents in our squad will play a major role this season, and I have full faith in them to give their best. It won’t be easy, but I believe we will achieve positive results,” he concluded.

As part of the squad revamp, Dempo has signed international players Shaher Shaheen from Syria and Barbovic Matija from Serbia, strengthening their lineup for the upcoming season.

Naik also took a moment to thank the club’s president, Srinivas Dempo, for his continued support and guidance. “I’m fortunate to have a president who believes in us and provides constant encouragement. His trust has been instrumental in creating a strong professional setup at the club,” Naik added.
