Monday morning saw the vibrant reunion of familiar faces and new arrivals at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium as FC Goa commenced their training sessions for the 2024-25 ISL season. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as players geared up for the challenges ahead.
In an exclusive interview with The Goan, key players Sandesh Jhingan and Carl McHugh provided insights into their first day back on the field and their aspirations for the upcoming season.
"It feels great to be back in Goa," expressed Sandesh Jhingan, the defender for FC Goa. "Everyone has had a good break and we're all refreshed and eager to start working hard for the new season ahead of us. Meeting new players and staff members is always exciting, and the mood within the camp is excellent."
Unlike the previous season's training grounds at Salvador do Mundo, FC Goa has shifted to a new venue this time around. Carl McHugh, the midfielder, commented on the change, saying, "It's a really good facility here. I've played on this pitch quite a bit during the bio-bubble seasons in Goa, so I'm familiar with it."
Reflecting on the past season and setting objectives for the new one, Carl McHugh shared, "Last season ended in disappointment for us in terms of missing out on the shield and trophy. This season, my goal is to work hard, regain match fitness, and compete for a spot in the starting lineup. Ultimately, we aim to go a step further and clinch a trophy. For now, it's about taking each training session as it comes and focusing on team cohesion."
As FC Goa gears up for another thrilling ISL campaign, with fresh energy and renewed goals, they are poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming season.
