Goa’s only cricketer who plays in the IPL Suyash Prabhudesai is looking forward for the new Ranji season that begins on October 11 and is quite confident that he will put up yet another good performance this time as well.
During last season, even though Goa performed badly as a team, Suyash’s performance was exceptionally brilliant. The opening batsman scored 687 runs including three centuries against Chandigarh (197), Karnataka (143) and Tamil Nadu (104). He narrowly missed out on scoring his second double century in first class cricket against Chandigarh at Porvorim.
“I had good season during last Ranji Trophy and will try to carry on the same form. I just need to focus on my basics and try to improve upon it, “ said Suyash who has a highest score of 212 in first-class cricket against Rajasthan during 2022-23 Ranji season.
Former India international Dinesh Mongia is Goa’s new Ranji coach. His experience will definitely help the Goan squad feels Suyash.
“We had a 40 days camp first in Chandigarh and then in Bengaluru under our new coach Dinesh Mongia. It was a very fruitful camp for batting, bowling and fielding unit. Everyone is gelling well and the overall atmosphere in the team is also good,” said Suyash.
“We are getting good guidance under him, especially our batsmen. He is a very experienced coach having represented India at the highest level. His temperament and strategies which he used during his playing days, he shares with us and this will help us improve our cricket,” he added.
Prabhudesai who made his Ranji debut against Haryana in November 2018, has played 34 first class matches scoring 2334 runs including 5 centuries and 12 fifties. He has been part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL since 2022 and was also included in the India B squad for the second round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy earlier this year.
Suyash has already established himself as a key batter for Goa. Known for his power hitting and ability to score quick runs, he will have an important role to play if Goa needs to do well in this Ranji season after having being relegated to the Plate division.
“We have to forget what has happened in the past during last season. We cannot change that. Now, we need to focus on the current season, play some good cricket, try to win every match and improve by each game,” said Suyash.
“Having outstation players like KV Siddharth and Arjun Tendulkar has added value to the side. We are very excited to play our first game against Manipur on October 11. Hopefully, it does not rain and we will get to play full 4 days of cricket,” he added.
