Goa Handball Academy has been doing an yeomen service for the game by promoting the game at the grass root level and reaching out to schools in North Goa as of now and adopting them for their youth development programmes.

“We are happy to spread this game and introduce the game in schools which have never played handball, we approach the schools and then we send coaches,” said Anant.

“We showed them a demo video of the game and several of the schools we approached now are taking part in the state level school competitions continuously and doing well at the state level, taluka level and District level.

“We are very much thankful to the schools which have introduced the game and also very happy that the handball game is spreading,” added Anant.

Recently Goa Handball Academy has adopted 4 schools in Bardez and Pernem Sacred Heart HS Parra Bardez, Pradnya HS Corgao Pernem, Parsem HS Parse Pernem and Durga HS Parse Pernem, where in goalpost, coach and balls are provided to the schools regularly from October to April every year.

Elaborating on the Academy coaching set up, Anant said, “It has 6 junior coaches who are appointed on part time basis and are paid according to the session of training they conduct at their respective centres.”

The coaches who work with GHA are Mariambi Mulla in Ponda, Prakshay Simepurushkar in Porvorim, Mahadev Parab in Parsem, Ghansham Garudi in Korgao, Ravi Rajan and Vijay Rajan, both in Siolim and Rahul Parab in Parra, all of them who are National Handball Players.

Besides, the Academy has over 25 trained and qualified referees to conduct matches at all levels in the state.

“The Academy also conducts Referee Course with the help of Senior National Handball Player from Maharashtra....Dr. Yogesh Bodke Prof from Agashe College Pune and also conducted Advance Coaching Courses which were conducted by Conceicao Fernandes SAG Handball Coach, Devendra Prabhu Dessai - Ex Handball Player and Retd PE teacher,” said Anant.

Regular orientation courses for referees are conducted by Vijay Rajan, Ravichandar Rajan and Anant Sawal for all National Handball Players and Physical education teachers by GHA, added Anant.
