Priority Titans cemented their position at the top of PGML 4.0 points table with their third consecutive victory, while Dempo Challengers tasted their first win in the fourth edition of the prestigious league; at Panjim Gymkhana ground here on Sunday.
Priority Titans are almost through to the last-four stage of the competition with another solid display where they hammered the highest total of PGML 4.0, posting 186/5 after winning the toss.
Vedant Naik was the top-scorer with a classy 40 runs off 26 balls, while Samir Chodankar (38 off 25 balls) and captain Mukhtar Kadri (34 off 23 balls) ensured the Titans mounted a formidable challenge for Desserts N'More Avengers, who possess great batting depth. However hard Avengers battled with power-packed contributions by opener duo Saandip Dahaad (39 off 26 balls)-Sairaj Dhond (28) and Vikas Shetty (29), the target got out of hand once they suffered a double blow with Rajshekhar Harikant and Saif Ali Karajgi getting out cheaply in the same over. The Avengers were restricted to 171/8
Samir Chodankar (38 runs and 2/3) was presented the Grant Thornton Man-of-the Match award by Ajit Singbal.
Earlier, Dempo Challengers made heavy weather of their chase of Baale Tigers' total of 128/7, before getting to the target in 19.1 overs.
Harshad Gadekar (40 off 30 balls) and Harsh Jethaji (32) put on 67 runs for the 4th wicket for the struggling Baale Tigers after captain Shushrut Nasnodkar had scored 24 runs at the top of the order.
In reply, Dempo captain Tunish Sawkar smashed a 19-ball 34 to provide the impetus to his side after a scratchy start. Ketan Nandrekar played steady for his 34 runs, and the duo was involved in 4th-wicket stand of 53 runs. Vijay Nagarajan played positively hitting his way out of pressure situation with 27 runs off 19 balls as Dempo emerged winners in the scrappy encounter, while Baale Tigers succumbed to their second successive defeat.
Tunish Sawkar was presented the Grant Thornton Man-of-the Match award by Brahmanand Shankhwalkar and Vinod Chander Chandiok.
