MARGAO: Santacruz Cumbiabhatt B and Mix Boys Velim reached the quarterfinals in AVCC Open Invitational 9-a-side football tournament, held in memory of Fr. Druston Correia, Macduf Monteiro, and Fr. Nevel Gracias.
In the first match, Santacruz Cumbiabhatt B edged out Sporting Club Pocklivoll 2-1. Velroy Rebello scored twice for Santacruz with goals in the 15th and 30th minutes. Sporting Club's Kenny Fernandes had opened the scoring early in the 10th minute. Velroy Rebello's performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
In the second match, Mix Boys Velim secured a 1-0 victory over Rangali Union. Stalin Da Cruz scored the lone goal with a volley in the 10th minute, assisted by Nieall Cardozo. Cardozo's overall performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
