Sao Jose De Areal triumphed over Parish Youth Nuvem with a 1-0 victory to secure a place in the semifinals of the 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup 2024, organized by Guirdolim Club at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.
Nuvem had the first chance in the 8th minute when Nicolau Colaco delivered a long ball to Jerose, who skillfully evaded a couple of defenders before setting up Rosario Noronha. However, Noronha fumbled with his first touch, and his weak shot was easily saved by the Areal goalkeeper.
Areal’s Priston Gomendes tested the Nuvem goalkeeper with a long-range shot in the 14th minute, which forced a full-stretch save. In the 20th minute, Nicolau Colaco’s free kick for Nuvem was tipped over the crossbar by the Areal keeper. Tyson of Areal also had a close-range shot wide in the 25th minute.
The second half saw both sides pushing for victory. Jerose provided a couple of key passes for Nuvem, but his teammates failed to capitalize on the chances. Areal winger Aryan sparked an attack in the 45th minute, sending in a cross that Priston met with a shot, which was saved by the Nuvem keeper. From the ensuing corner kick, Tyson Carvalho placed the ball perfectly into the top corner from an acute angle, giving Areal a 1-0 lead.
Nuvem responded by pushing forward in numbers, with Francis Colaco moving out of defense to provide long balls into the Areal box. However, their strikers couldn’t convert the opportunities. In the final minutes, Nuvem had three corner kicks but failed to find the equalizer.
The match ended 1-0 in favor of Sao Jose De Areal, with Tyson Carvalho being named Player of the Match for his decisive goal. The award was presented by Jimmy Cardoso, the former goalkeeper of Guirdolim Club.
