Shri Bhumika HSS Parye stun Fr Agnel HSS Pilar

Shri. Bhumika Higher Secondary School Parye from Sattari Taluka once again demonstrated that they are the rising force on the Goa hockey scene when they trounced Fr. Agnel Higher Secondary School Pilar 4-0 in the opening match of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) Under-17 Nehru hockey girls tournament.

Yesterday at Peddem grounds Mapusa, the Parye girls, who got their initial lessons of the game from the hockey development program launched by the Pilar Fathers in Sattari Taluka, struck three goals in first half and added a fourth one in the second half to emerge winners.

Riya Talekholkar gave her team the lead in the 11th minute with a penalty conversion.

Three minutes later, Anita Pingale made it 2-0 through a field goal.

A few minutes later, Mayusha Gawas, made known to every one why she has been given the jersey number 10 when she scored third goal and went on to add a second one in the second half to make it 4-0.

Honda HS Honda, which has got a bye into the quarters will take on Shri. Bhumika HSS Parye today at 2.30pm.

In todays other matches, Damodar English HS Gudi Paroda will take on Immaculate Heart of Mary, Goa Velha in the quarter-final encounter at 9.30am.

In the other matches of the day, St Jude High School Betalbatim clash with holy Cross High School Bastora at 10.30am in the second quarter-final.

In the other last eight encounters Holy Cross HS Siolim meet St. Anthony HS Guirim, 3.30pm.

The semi-finals will be held on September 21 and the final and the third-place match on September 23.

Nine High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools are taking part in the tournament.
