The opening day of Sail Goa 2025, organized by the Goa Yachting Association at the scenic Dona Paula coastline, got off to a slow start as light morning winds forced the postponement of races. However, the conditions improved by the afternoon session, with gusts ranging from 9 to 14 knots providing ideal circumstances for the windsurfing classes to shine.
All races in the Techno 293 and Raceboard classes were successfully conducted in challenging conditions marked by strong currents and medium-strength winds, pushing the sailors to bring their A-game.
The Olympic-class iQFOiL fleet saw a delayed start. The first race had to be abandoned due to a sudden drop in wind, prompting the race committee to switch to a Slalom format to accommodate the changing conditions.
In the Raceboard Men, Veteran windsurfer Chennaiah from EMESC Bhopal Army Club proved his enduring class, taking all three wins (guns) of the day. He leads ahead of Mithilesh Kumar from the Army Yachting Node, Mumbai, and Kamlapti, also of EMESC Bhopal.
In the Raceboard U21 Boys, Raj Santosh Patil of the Yachting Association of Maharashtra (YAM) dominated with three wins. Narayan Munda of the Odisha Yachting Association holds second, closely followed by Sai Patil of YAM in third.
In the Raceboard U21 Girls, Tejassui Prajapati of NSS Bhopal leads the category with two wins and a second-place finish. Prarthna Bhoi, also of NSS Bhopal, is in second with one win and two second-place finishes. M. K. Pragathi of TNSA sits close behind in third.
In the Techno 293OD U15 Girls, Naavya Kaku (YAM) tops the leaderboard with two wins, ahead of Vaishnavi Kajale from MG&G Area Sailing Club (Army) and Priyanshi Patil (YAM).
In the Techno 293OD U15 Boys, Udaiveer Singh Johal of the MG&G Area Sailing Club holds the lead with two wins. Mohit Mhatre of YAM follows in second with one win, and Sohan Rajput of NSS Bhopal rounds out the top three.
