There will be no Goan player at IPL 2025. Goa's prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket Suyash Prabhudessai went unsold in the Mega IPL Auction 2025 held at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia after failing to get any bid.
Only the fifth cricketer from Goa after Swapnil Asnodkar, Shadab Jakati, Aditya Angle and Saurabh Bandekar to have landed an IPL contract, the 26-year old batter is known for his ability to score quick runs later down the batting order.
Prabhudessai had registered himself for the IPL 2025 mega auction at the base price of Rs. 30 lakh.
He made his IPL debut in 2022 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and has played in three IPL seasons - 2022, 2023 and 2024 - for the same franchise. An uncapped player, over the years he was picked for his base price of Rs. 30 lakh. But, this time around after been released by RCB, the batting all-rounder who bowls right-arm medium-pace and bats right-handed, went unsold.
During IPL 2021 Player Auction, Suyash was picked by RCB at a base price for Rs. 20 lakh, but did not get to play any IPL match.
In domestic cricket, the all-rounder has played 37 first-class games, 47 List-A games, and 49 T20s so far. In red-ball cricket, he has scored 2581 wickets with the help of six centuries and 14 fifties in addition to taking 11 wickets with his highest score being 212.
In List A cricket, he has scored 1190 runs including a century and 7 fifties with his highest score being 132 not out., while in T20s, he has scored 952 runs with the help of four fifties. He has also picked up 9 wickets in the white-ball format.
Suyash made his IPL debut in 2022 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In his first season, the right-handed batsman played 5 games and scored 67 runs. He played 5 games once again in 2023 and scored 35 runs. In IPL 2024, Prabhudessai could play only one game and scored 24 runs. Thus, in 11 IPL matches, Suyash has scored 126 runs at an average of 12.6 with his highest score being 34.
During the current Ranji season, Suyash scored a hundred against Manipur in the opening match at Porvorim wherein he scored 120. In the next match against Sikkim, Prabhudesai scored 54. But, later missed out the other two matches against Nagaland and Mizoram due to an injury. However, he played the last game against Arunachal Pradesh at Porvorim and scored 73.
Prabhudesai was Goa's leading run-scorer during last Ranji season 2023-24. The opener scored 687 runs including three centuries against Chandigarh (197), Karnataka (143) and Tamil Nadu (104).
Meanwhile, Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who represents Goa in domestic cricket, was retained by Mumbai Indians at his base price of Rs 30 lakh. Arjun has been part of Mumbai Indians since IPL 2023.
