Trisha Vinod defends double title

Sagar Kumar and Gargi Oak shine with wins

Reigning champion 23-year-old Trisha Vinod from Bengaluru, repeated her last year’s winning double at the Gadre Gaspar Open 2025, winning twin titles in the Open Ladies Singles and Open Mixed Doubles events, even as Sagar Kumar won the honours in the prestigious Open Men’s Singles segment.

In the Open Ladies Singles final, Trisha defeated Sanika Kambli, who she had ousted in the final of the tournament’s last edition. When the two met again in the final this time round, there was a palpable tension in the air. Sanika put up a tough fight, narrowly losing the first set 5-7, before Trisha powered her way through the second set 6-2, winning the title.

In earlier semi-final matches in the same event, Trisha had to work hard to overcome a stiff challenge from Andrea Almeida. Trisha lost the first set 3-6, before making a comeback, winning the next two 7-5 and 10-2. In the other semi-final, Sanika Kambli defeated Natasha Palha 6-2, 3-6,10-5.

In the mixed doubles final, Trisha Vinod and Maaz Khan, who had won the title last year, paired up again to defeat Sanika Kambli/Shubham Shaw 4-6, 7-5, 10-8. The final match stretched the participants to the limits, with Sanika and Shubham making the eventual winners work hard for every point.

In the men’s singles final, 19-year-old Sagar Kumar from Delhi overcame the challenge posed by Sreyas Prasad, defeating the latter 6-1, 6-1.

In the Open Men’s Doubles finals, Saiel Gajinkar/Jay Pawar defeated Anamay Mittal/Aryan Kotasthane 6-1, 6-3.

Earlier, Anamay and Aryan had defeated Santosh Gorawar/Nilesh Sawant 6-0, 6-4 in the semi-finals to book their place for the final event.

Emulating her senior Trisha, Gargi Oak also won a double in the Gadre Gaspar Open 2025’s Open Girls under-16 and under-12 categories. Gargi came back from a 1-4 score to defeat her opponent Ritisha Baradur 4-1, 4-0 to win the girls under-16 title on the second consecutive occasion in the tournament. Gargi also blanked out Urvi Panandiker 4-0, 4-0 in the girls under-12 category, without breaking a sweat.

In the junior boys sections, Kriyansh R faced Devaansh Naik in the boys under-12 event, with the former outwitting the latter 4-1, 4-0, while Ethan de Ataide breezed past Vedant Naik 4-0, 4-1 in the final match of the boys under-16 event.
