United Boys of Ambaulim triumphed 6-4 in a tie-breaker against Santa Cruz Society, Potomado to reach the semi-finals of the 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup 2024, organized by Guirdolim Club at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.
The match began with Ambaulim controlling possession and coming close to scoring in the 3rd minute, but Teron missed an open goal. In the 9th minute, Selton’s free-kick was saved by the Poitomado keeper. As the game progressed, Poitomado began to find their rhythm, with Jollyton missing a chance in the 17th minute after a brilliant run by Daulat.
In the second half, Poitomado took the lead in the 37th minute when Vinod Velip tapped in a cross from Jollyton. Poitomado nearly doubled their advantage in the 39th minute, but Jollyton’s long-range effort hit the crossbar. Ambaulim responded strongly, with Joel missing several opportunities before Savlon Fernandes equalized with a free-kick in the 53rd minute.
With the score tied at 1-1, the match went to penalties. Ambaulim converted all five spot-kicks, while Poitomado scored only three, giving Ambaulim a 6-4 victory.
Savlon Fernandes of Ambaulim was named Player of the Match by Anthony Fernandes, a veteran athlete and former footballer.
