WABC Level 1 Certification held in Goa

The Basketball Federation of India, under the aegis of FIBA-ASIA has successfully completed the WABC Level 1 (World Association of Basketball Coaches) Certification Program in Goa hosted by the Goa Basketball Association [GBA].

This is the second such program conducted in Goa, the last begin conducted in 2017 by FIBA Instructor Nelson Isley. 15 Coaches from all over India were carefully selected to undertake the certification, which now will be the criteria for all coaches [State/National/International] to be able to assume the role as Coaches. Goa, as host was able to get five local Coaches selected by FIBA based on their criteria after application. The five Goa Coaches are: Lambert Godinho, Andriel Fernandes, Flobert Monteiro, Dillano Marchon and Vassily Mascarenhas.

The Certification program of 6 days [11-16 Feb 2025] was conducted by FIBA Instructor Arnika Patil, the first FIBA Instructor of India, with prominent members of the Indian Basketball fraternity who were part of the program such as: Geethu Anna Rahul – an Arjuna Awardee, Anitha Pauldurai – a Padmashree awareddee, and Shireen Vijay Limaye – present India Women’s Captain. The program set up by WABC, included eight hours of intensive training with written and practical exams which the participants need to complete with a minimum of 75% to be competent as Level 1 coaches.

The theory sessions were held in Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, and the Sports Authority of Goa, offered the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim, for all practical sessions.

Among the dignitaries were, Jugraj Singh, BFI Vice-President and coordinator for all Coaching Programs in the Country, and Fr. Ralin De Souza, GBA Secretary and BFI Vice-President.
