Gomanchal Warriors and RMKS XI won their respective matches on the opening day of the 2nd Goa Veteran Cricket League T20 tournament at 1919 Sportz Arena, Verna on Sunday.
RMKS XI beat Mangirish Veterans by seven wickets in the first match, while Gomanchal Warriors downed Royal Ruby by 29 runs in the other match of the day.
RMKS XI chased down Mangirish Veterans' total of 155/7 with a fair degree of ease as Siddhesh Prabhu Alvencar played an entertaining unbeaten knock of 75 not out off 41 balls, comprising 5 boundaries and 4 sixes, while spinner Mrunmay Das, who returned an impressive 5/21, provided the cutting edge to their bowling attack.
Earlier, Damodar Redkar (63) and Sachin Sardessai (52) posted a solid opening stand of 115 for Mangirish Veterans. Sidhesh Prabhu Alvencar was named Man-of-the Match and received the award from Nitin Chopdekar.
In the second match, Gomanchal Warriors piled on a huge total of 196/7 and then restricted Royal Ruby to 167/5. Ravi Shetye provided the impetus with a stunning knock which contained 7 sixes and 4 boundaries in his 42-ball 76.
In reply, Royal Ruby failed to keep up with the asking rate as they set batters without making a substantial impact. Ravi Shetye was adjudged Man of the Match and received the award from Sudesh Rane.
Anant Naik, ex-vice president of GCA and treasurer of MGP party, graced the inaugural ceremony and declared the tournament open.
