Angelo Fernandes emerged victorious in the final of the Jolly Boys of Raia Inter-Raia Carrom Tournament, defeating Vithaldas Shirodkar with a score of 29-25. The tournament, which was sponsored by Mario D'Souza, the Sarpanch of Raia, saw intense competition from local players. The Sarpanch was present to distribute the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Eucharistic Mass to be held for sports community at Basilica of Bom Jesus
The John Paul II Foundation for Sports, Goa, an official body of the Archdiocese of Goa, is set to host a special Eucharistic Mass on December 28 at 3.30 pm at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Old Goa. The Mass will be part of the Exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier and is dedicated to the entire sports community.
The celebration aims to pray for players, coaches, administrators, media, medical professionals, and all those connected with the world of sports, including families and fans. The Mass will provide a unique opportunity for sports enthusiasts to come together in gratitude for the role sports play in enriching lives and to seek divine guidance and blessings for future endeavours. “We invite everyone involved in sports to join us for this special Mass,” said the Foundation. “This celebration is a testament to our collective appreciation for the role that sports play in fostering unity, discipline, and holistic development.”
Sports personalities felicitated by Good Shepherd Organisation
The Good Shepherd Organisation, Fatorda, honoured several prominent sports personalities from across Goa at an event held in Margao on Wednesday. The ceremony saw the presence of various dignitaries, with Fr Joe Rodrigues, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Grace Church, Margao, serving as the chief guest. Fr Rodrigues distributed prizes to the honorees in recognition of their achievements in the field of sports.
Among the sports personalities felicitated were Terence Fernandes, Roy Aldrich Fernandes, Lisa Jerry Fernandes, Anjulo Politon Fernandes, Marsha Ann Faleiro, Garrison Fernandes, and Aditya Nikhil Sawant. The event also celebrated the contributions of Fr Leo Fernandes, Antonio Mascarenhas, Fr Mario Noronha, Fr Manoy, Scott Fernandes, Julius Colaco, Joaquim Coasto, Oswald D’Costa, and Sakshi Kale. The ceremony, which recognized the efforts and dedication of sports figures, was attended by a number of local dignitaries, including Fr Franky Fernandes Capuchin, Joaquim, Franky Fernandes, and Necidade Movin, among others.
