MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana secured their place in the quarterfinals of the 23rd Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Tournament with a commanding 3-1 win against hosts Associação Académica de Majorda Utorda Calata. The scoreline could have been more lopsided if not for some missed opportunities by Curtorim and exceptional goalkeeping from Fredy Fernandes for Majorda.

The match started brightly, with Majorda’s Myron Pereira testing Curtorim goalkeeper Floyd Hilario early on. After a deflected shot led to a corner, Majorda was awarded a penalty when Oscar Braganza was brought down in the box by Rhay Dias. Ashley Rodrigues calmly converted the penalty, putting Majorda ahead.

The second half saw Majorda continue to threaten, but Curtorim’s persistence paid off. After a series of near misses and more heroics from Fredy, Gilbert Fernandes finally equalised with a low drive past the Majorda keeper.

Despite Fredy’s best efforts to deny him, Curtorim took the lead through Anselm Fernandes, who capitalized on a loose ball in the box. Anselm sealed the victory moments later with a precise right-footed strike, leaving Fredy with no chance.
