It was a dream debut for Goa’s Shubham Premanand Tari. The 23-year right-arm medium pace bowler from Moira ripped apart Manipur’s batting line-up as he bagged 5-wicket haul (5/41) on debut as the visitor’s were bundled out for mere 98 in 25.1 overs on day 2 of the Ranji Trophy match at Porvorim ground.
Ruthvik Naik and Mohit Redkar captured two wickets each while skipper Darshan Misal took one wicket. It was a poor batting display by Manipur. The Manipuri innings did not last even for two hours. Only three Manipuri batsmen could reach the double digit mark - Prafullomani Singh (25), Kamajit Yumnam (17) and Johnson Singh (12). Infact, Goa gave away 18 runs in extras (No Ball - 1, Wide – 2, Bye – 4 and Leg Bye – 11).
Manipur were forced to follow-on as Goa took a big 278 runs first innings lead. Manipur were 55/1 in 16 overs at end of day 2 when rain stopped play, more than one hour before stoppage time. Opener Kamajit Yumnam was not out on 41. For Goa, captain Darshan Misal picked up the lone Manipuri wicket that fell in their second innings.
With two days of play left, Goa is in sight of a big win as Manipur still trail by 223 runs.
Earlier, Goa started the day at 302/7 and added 74 more runs to their innings for the loss of three wickets before they were bowled out for 376 in 109.2 overs. For Manipur, Rex Rajkumar, Bishworjit Konthoujam, Priyojit Singh Kangabam and Ajay Lamabam picked up two wickets each.
Wicket-keeper Samar Dubashi hit his third fifty as he scored 75, felling short of his highest score of 97. Samar hit seven fours in his innings. He along with Ruthvik Naik (19) put on a valuable 56 runs partnership for the eight wicket.
Suyash Prabhudessai (120), Samar Dubashi (75), Darshan Misal (51) and Snehal Kauthankar (41) were the top scorers for Goa.
