Ethan Vaz wins gold for India at Commonwealth Chess C’ship

Asian Youth Chess Champion and chess prodigy Ethan Vaz of Goa led India to the gold medal in the Under-12 open category at the Commonwealth Chess Championship. The championships were organised in Sri Lanka, from November 14-22.

In the U-12 Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka, Ethan once again made India and in particular Goa proud by winning the gold medal with a brilliant performance. 

Many people including Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai have showered praised on him. Ethan is a student of San Jose de Areal School in Margao.

Ethan has won many medals at the State, National, West Asia, Asian Schools and World Chess Championships. Ethan has once again highlighted his dominance in the game to the world by winning the Under-12 open category at the Commonwealth Chess Championship this time.

Earlier this year, Ethan was selected to represent India at the FIDE World Cadets Chess Championship after winning the bronze medal at the National Under-12 Open Chess Championship. The World Cadets Chess Championship was scheduled from September 16-27, 2022. Apart from this, Ethan won bronze medal in Under 12 National Chess Championship held in Mandya-Karnataka. Due to this, he was selected in the Indian team.
