Panaji: FC Goa is in advanced talks with Jorge Pereyra Diaz, a 33-year-old Argentine striker currently playing for Mumbai City FC. Mumbai City FC, however, is hesitant to renew the contract of the Argentine forward for the upcoming 2024-25 ISL season.

Diaz began his football career in Argentina with Club Ferro before moving to Club Atlético Lanús. Over the years, he has represented various clubs across the globe, including stints in Malaysia, Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. His most recent tenure saw him play for Club Atlético Platense, where he was loaned to Kerala Blasters before joining Mumbai City FC in August 2022.

During his time with Mumbai City FC, Diaz has been a significant asset, making 55 appearances, scoring 27 goals, and providing 8 assists. In the current 2023/2024 season, he has featured in 14 matches, accumulating 1,115 minutes of playing time. Diaz has been a consistent starter for Mumbai City FC, scoring eight goals and receiving three yellow cards.

Known for his versatility on the field, Diaz can operate as a winger on both flanks, serve as a second striker, or slot into midfield positions. His exceptional ball control and attacking instincts make him a formidable presence in front of goal. He excels in creating space for scoring opportunities and has a knack for finding the back of the net.

With Mumbai City FC leading the league standings with 47 points, Diaz aims to end his tenure on a high note by helping the team secure their second ISL Shield in a row. In the previous season, he played a pivotal role in Mumbai City FC's title-winning campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in 20 ISL matches.

FC Goa's interest in Diaz highlights their ambition to bolster their attacking lineup and compete at the highest level in the upcoming ISL season. The negotiations between the two parties are ongoing, with Diaz potentially becoming a key player for FC Goa under the guidance of coach Manolo Marquez.
