The Goa men’s and women’s teams had a stellar performance at the 35th Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, held at the MA Stadium in Jammu under floodlights from November 18th to 21st, 2024. Both teams made significant progress in the tournament, with the men’s team qualifying for the pre-quarterfinals and the women’s team securing a spot in the quarterfinals.
Goa vs West Bengal: Batting first, West Bengal scored 42/5 in 8 overs. Goa’s bowlers dominated, with Punit Khandeparkar (8/1), Sachin Mahale (20/1), and Prasad Nagvekar (8/1) leading the charge.
In reply, Goa chased down the target, scoring 43/2 in 6 overs. Abhishek Gaonkar remained not out on 10, Harsh Gala contributed 9 runs, and Prasad Nagvekar finished on 10 not out, leading Goa to a 6-wicket victory.
Goa vs Bihar: Goa posted a total of 68/6 in 8 overs, with Abhishek Gaonkar scoring a match-high 38 runs, supported by Harsh Gala (14 runs) and Ajay Halgekar (8 runs).
Bihar was bundled out for just 36 runs. Punit Khandeparkar took 3 wickets for 13 runs, Ajay Halgekar claimed 3 wickets for 2 runs, and Prasad Nagvekar (6/1) and Abhishek Gaonkar (6/1) also made important contributions. Goa won by 31 runs.
Goa vs Andhra Pradesh: Goa batted first and scored 72/6 in 8 overs. Abhishek Gaonkar’s unbeaten 48 runs and Harsh Gala’s 21 runs helped put up a competitive total.
In response, Andhra Pradesh was all out for 29 runs. Goa’s bowlers dominated with Punit Khandeparkar (4/1), Sachin Mahale (18/1), Prasad Nagvekar (5/1), and Ajay Halgekar (3/2) ensuring a comprehensive 43-run win for Goa.
In the women’s category, Goa vs Maharashtra: Batting first, Goa scored 51/6 in 6 overs, with Purva Gaude contributing 22 runs and Pradnya Pednekar adding 17 runs.
Maharashtra could only manage 39/6 in 6 overs. Goa’s bowlers were on point, with Santoshi Tuyekar (8/1), Pratiksha Kerkar (14/1), and Deesha Kambli (10/1) leading the charge. Goa won by 12 runs.
Goa vs Vidarbha: Vidarbha posted a total of 41/6 in 6 overs. Deesha Kambli (11/1), Pradnya Pednekar (10/1), and Pratiksha Kerkar (10/2) were key contributors with the ball for Goa.
Goa then chased down the target in just 3.3 overs, scoring 42/1. Deesha Kambli’s brilliant 24* runs and Pradnya Pednekar’s 10* guided Goa to a comfortable 7-wicket victory.
Goa vs Uttarakhand: Goa set a formidable total of 81/2 in 6 overs. Deesha Kambli was in outstanding form, scoring 41* runs, while Santoshi Tuyekar (10 runs) and Pradnya Pednekar (20 runs) made important contributions.
Uttarakhand finished with 54/4 in 6 overs. Santoshi Tuyekar (6/1), Pratiksha Kerkar (18/2), and Pradnya Pednekar (14/1) helped Goa win by 27 runs.
