MARGAO: Guardian Angel Sports Club secured a decisive 4-1 victory over St. Anthony Football Club, Assolda, to advance to the next round of the 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup Intervillage football tournament, organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, at the Curtorim Church ground on Thursday.
Guardian Angel opened the scoring early in the 5th minute, with Ryan Menezes neatly placing the ball in the net after receiving a long diagonal pass from Ivo Costa. Just three minutes later, in the 8th minute, Menezes struck again to double the lead, leaving Guardian Angel up 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, St. Anthony FC responded with increased pressure and pulled one back through Vitorino Fernandes, who scored with a powerful left-footed shot in the 20th minute. However, Guardian Angel quickly regained control, scoring two goals in quick succession: Cyril Dias found the net in the 51st minute, followed by a hat trick goal from Ryan Menezes in the dying moments of the match.
Menezes's outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by Caetano Hilario, Panch of the Village Panchayat Curtorim.
