Historic 3-a-side women's basketball league takes center stage in Goa

KJs Sports and Cultural Club, in collaboration with Sonics Sports and Cultural Youth Club, has made history by organizing the first-ever 3-a-side women's basketball league in Goa. Featuring 10 teams, including a mix of national-level players and rising talents, this league marks a significant milestone in Goa's basketball scene.


The joint effort of KJs and Sonics basketball clubs aims to elevate women's basketball in Goa by providing a platform for the state's finest players to showcase their skills. Held at the Youth Hostel on May 11th and 12th, the league witnessed intense competition and thrilling matchups with teams battling it out in exhilarating games that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.


Pool A saw fierce battles on the opening day, with Saligao Sparx clinching a dramatic overtime victory against Aldona Aces with a score of 6-5. Miramar Queens asserted their dominance with a convincing 6-2 win over Porvorim Pelicans. Saligao Sparx continued their winning streak with a commanding 7-3 victory over Margao Marauders. The day ended with Aldona Aces defeating Porvorim Pelicans 4-3, and Margao Marauders securing a 6-3 victory over Miramar Queens.


On Day 2, Margao Marauders maintained their momentum with a 4-1 victory over Porvorim Pelicans, while Miramar Queens clinched a thrilling overtime win against Aldona Aces with a score of 9-8. Saligao Sparx showcased their dominance with an 8-4 victory over Porvorim Pelicans, and Aldona Aces secured a hard-fought 5-3 win against Margao Marauders. The day concluded with Saligao Sparx edging out Miramar Queens 6-5 in another exhilarating matchup.


Pool B witnessed equally intense competition, with Siolim Wildcats, Fatorda Flyers, and Panjim Pacers displaying their skills. Siolim Wildcats started strong with a commanding 12-4 victory over Vasco Vixens, while Fatorda Flyers secured a thrilling overtime win against Mapusa Mystics with a score of 10-7. Panjim Pacers emerged victorious with a 9-4 win over Vasco Vixens, and Fatorda Flyers continued their impressive performance with a hard-fought 9-7 win over Siolim Wildcats in another overtime thriller. The day concluded with Panjim Pacers defeating Mapusa Mystics 9-4.


On day 2, Fatorda Flyers maintained their momentum with a solid 6-3 victory over Panjim Pacers. Siolim Wildcats dominated Mapusa Mystics with a resounding 15-2 victory. Fatorda Flyers continued their winning streak, defeating Vasco Vixens with a score of 6-3. Siolim Wildcats clinched a narrow 7-6 victory over Panjim Pacers. In a closely contested match, Mapusa Mystics secured their first victory, defeating Vasco Vixens with a score of 8-5.


As the league progresses, anticipation mounts for the upcoming quarter-final matches scheduled for May 18th. Saligao Sparx will face off against Mapusa Mystics, Miramar Queens will take on Panjim Pacers, Aldona Aces will battle Siolim Wildcats and Margao Marauders will clash with Fatorda Flyers.
