MARGAO: Maina Sports Club secured a commanding 5-0 victory over United Club of Benaulim, advancing to the semifinals of the 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup organized by Curtorim Gymkhana at St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Friday.
The match started explosively for Maina, with Joy Hilario scoring a half-volley just one minute in. He quickly doubled the lead with another goal in the 10th minute, completing his brace early on. Just before halftime, Joliston Rebello and Maldino Rodrigues added two quick goals in the 25th and 28th minutes, respectively, bringing the score to 4-0.
In the second half, Maina continued their dominance, with Savio Peixoto scoring the fifth goal. While Benaulim made efforts to find the net, Maina's goalkeeper, Prakash, kept their strikers at bay, ensuring a clean sheet.
Conceicao Dias, a former Panchayat member of Curtorim, presented the Man of the Match award to Joy Hilario for his outstanding performance.
