VMCL Scorpions secured a 5-wicket win over VMCL Hustlers in the opening match of Season 3 of the Margao Cricket Club Ferdinand Coelho Memorial Veteran Members Cricket League (VMCL), giving their campaign a winning start. The match was played under lights at the MCC ground in Margao on Tuesday.
Ivo Coutinho, businessman, hotelier, and former president of Margao Cricket Club, was the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony. He was instrumental in laying the first turf pitches at MCC. Members of MCC and other dignitaries were also present for the occasion.
Batting first, the Hustlers were all out for 106 runs in 18.3 overs. In response, the Scorpions chased down the target in 19 overs, losing 5 wickets and scoring 107 runs.
Hustlers’ openers Venkatesh Nevagi and Shailu provided a steady start with a 46-run partnership. Nevagi top-scored with 33 runs, while Shailu added 15. Middle-order contributions came from Mahendra Pai Kuchelkar (14) and Anoop Borkar (13).
Scorpions’ bowler Dr. Satyesh Kamat was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for just 17 runs, delivering a match-defining spell.
In the chase, Jude Cardozo led the scoring for the Scorpions with 23 runs. Iftikhar Agha (19), Sandeep Dalal (unbeaten 19), and Nilesh Prabhudesai (15) also played key roles in the win. For the Hustlers, Venkatesh Nevagi, Neelam Korgaonkar, Sachin Kenkre, and Sarvesh Kamat each claimed a wicket.
Dr. Satyesh Kamat was named Player of the Match for his impactful bowling performance.
