The Goa University Inter Collegiate Cricket Championship 2024-25 for Women commenced on Thursday, at the Goa University Cricket Ground, Taleigao.
The opening day witnessed a thrilling encounter between M.E.S Vasant Joshi College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar, and Govt. College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim.
After Sanquelim won the toss and elected to bowl, MES College posted a total of 66/1 in their 10 overs, with impressive batting performances from Pooja Yadav (34) and Harshada Kadam (18). Shaizeen Sahikh Mirza took 1 wicket for 13 runs for Sanquelim.
In response, Sanquelim struggled against MES College's strong bowling attack and were eventually bowled out for 46 in 8.5 overs, despite Sushma Gainer's 10 runs. Priya Gupta and Deepali Pal of MES College were the standout bowlers, each taking 3 wickets. MES College won the match by 20 runs.
The second day of the championship featured two exciting matches.
In the first match, Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim, secured a decisive 10-wicket victory over Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim.
Rosary College, batting first after losing the toss, managed 53/7 in their 10 overs, with Velisa Rebelo (11) and Mamta Kumari (10) contributing with the bat. Pooja Gupta and Ruchi Kumbhar each took 2 wickets for Vidya Prabodhini.
Vidya Prabodhini chased down the target with ease, reaching 54/0 in just 5.4 overs, thanks to an impressive 30 runs from Ruchi Kumbhar and 7 from Nethra Lamani. Ruchi Kumbhar was named best player for her all round preformance.
In the second match, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, defeated Goa College of Music, Altinho, by a commanding 63 runs.
Shree Damodar College, after winning the toss and electing to bat, posted a total of 99/2 in their 10 overs, with Tamanna Shaikh (33) and Ishika Nayar (18) leading the charge.
Pradnya Chari and Pratima Salgaocar took 1 wicket each for Goa College of Music. Goa College of Music struggled to chase the target, managing only 36/2 in their 10 overs, with Pradnya Chari scoring 12 runs.
Eshwari Borkar took 1 wicket for Shree Damodar College. Tamanna Shaikh was awarded best player.
