Nuvem Veterans secured a 6-5 victory over Mitra Veterans in a tiebreaker to reach the semifinals of the 10th Fatorda Veterans Football Tournament, held at Don Bosco Ground in Fatorda on Sunday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at full time, with Vincent Fernandes putting Nuvem Veterans ahead, followed by an equaliser from Navil Araujo of Mitra Veterans through a penalty kick. In the subsequent tiebreaker, Nuvem Veterans proved to be more accurate in their penalty shots, clinching the win. Jamson Noronha, known as Abel, of Nuvem Veterans, was named Man of the Match and presented with the award by Joaquim Fernandes.

Zaino win, MRF advance with walkover

MARGAO: The 3rd Chandrakant Karapurakar cricket tournament witnessed an exciting match as Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino defeated Vijay Cricket Club by 8 runs in a closely contested match. In the afternoon, MRF advanced to the next round following a walkover, as Iqbal XI failed to report to the ground. In the morning match, Zaino posted a total of 166/5 in their 20 overs. Umang Gosavi led the charge with a solid 56, supported by Mahendra Kopardekar (33) and Jay Dadmode (35). Vijay Cricket Club’s Shreyas Usgaonkar (3-25) and Shailesh Redkar (2-35) were the pick of the bowlers. In reply, Vijay Cricket Club managed to score 158 all out in 19.3 overs. Badal Naik (28) and Izhan Shaikh (22) were the top scorers. However, Mahendra Kopardekar (3-13), Vishal Gaude (2 wickets), and Umang Gosavi (2 wickets) proved too strong for them. Umang Gosavi was named the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

South Goa Utd down Cortalim Villagers

MARGAO: South Goa United defeated Cortalim Villagers SWSC 3-0 in the U-13 Division I match at Cansaulim Sports Complex on Sunday. Snyder Simoes, Mohammad Asif Mirch and Macklan Menezes scored a goal each for South Goa United.

Carmona Youth ease past Benaulim

MARGAO: Carmona Youth defeated Benaulim Youth 4-2 in the Benaulim Constituency Youth football tournament at Varca ground on Sunday. Carmona Youth scored through Falrus, who netted a hat-trick and Darren, who scored the opther goal. Benaulim found the net through Alejio and Keegan.
