Goa looked in complete control of their Ranji Trophy Plate Division group match against minnows Arunachal Pradesh as they posted 414/2 in 54 overs on Day 1 after bowling out Arunachal Pradesh for a mere 84 at the Porvorim ground on Wednesday.
Goa lead by 330 runs in their first innings with still eight wickets in hand and are poised for their fifth consecutive win this season.
Kashyap Bakle and Snehal Kauthankar hit centuries as they put on a massive unbeaten 293 runs partnership off just 220 balls for the third wicket. Both of them made a mockery of Arunachal Pradesh’s toothless bowling attack hitting multiple boundaries and sixes with ease all over the ground.
Kashyap who playing his second first-class game hit his maiden ton. He was unbeaten on 179 off 156 balls and hit two sixes and 24 fours.
He was equally supported by the in-form Kauthankar who was still batting on 146 off just 100 balls. His knock included 21 fours. For Snehal, it was his ninth first-class century.
Kashyap and Suyash Prabhudessai had added 109 runs for the second wicket. Suyash added a quick-fire 73 off 64 balls. For Arunachal Pradesh, Yab Niya Niia (1/50) and Jay Bhavsar (1/92) took a wicket each.
Earlier in the day, Arunachal Pradesh electing to bat first were bowled out for 84 in 30.3 overs at lunch.
It was a disciplined bowling attack by Goa. Arunachal Pradesh wickets started falling at regular intervals from the moment they started batting. Except for their skipper Nabam Abo’s unbeaten 25 and Neelam Obi’s 22, none of the Arunachal Pradesh batsmen showed any kind of resistance. In fact, their four batsmen were out on a duck.
For Goa, Arjun Tendulkar (5/25) picked his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. The 25-year-old left-arm seamer took 5 wickets for just 25 runs in 9 overs, including three maidens. This was his 17th first-class match.
By the time Arjun completed his five-wicket feat, Arunachal were struggling at 36/5 in 17.1 overs. Arjun was well supported by Mohit Redkar and Keith Pinto who picked up the remaining five wickets among them. Mohit (3/15) took three wickets while debutant Keith (2/31) bagged two wickets.
Arunachal Pradesh is the weakest side in the group and is the only team yet to win a match. Goa has already qualified for Ranji Elite Group next season by winning all their four games and is currently lying on top of the points table in their Plate group with 26 points.
