Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim defended their championship after defeating St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, 1-0 in the inter-collegiate football championship, organised by Goa University, at University ground, Taleigao, on Monday.
Rosary College registered a hat-trick of wins as they have been champions for the years 2019-20, 2022-23, and now 2023-24.
Rosary College started with attacking intent and dominated play in the first half, having more ball position. The match-winner was scored in the seventh minute by Rhea Pires. Post- resumption, Rosary College with a strong attacking approach and sensible play, had chances to score but most of the shots were off-target. St Xavier's College showed some offensive play but was kept at bay by the strong defense of Rosary College to crown themselves the champions.
The best player of the championship was awarded to Rhea Pires of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim.
Dr Caitano Fernandes, President, Goa Football Association was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour, Milton Fernanders, Former Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, Collin Vaz, former Member of Goa Football Development Council, Dr Francis Lobo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Rosary College and other dignitaries.
