South Goa United Club of Sports and Culture defeated Salgaocar FC 2-1 in an exciting clash at Fatorda Artificial Turf on Wednesday.
Salgaocar FC initially broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Nayden Dias capitalised on a under-pressure situation by the keeper by intercepting a pass and slotting the ball home from close range to give Salgaocar FC the lead.
However, South Goa United quickly responded, with Jayden equalising through a stunning free-kick in the 14th minute. The momentum continued for South Goa United as Shiva later doubled their lead with a well-executed goal courtesy of a long ball.
The first half concluded with South Goa United in the lead with a score of 2-1.
The second half saw South Goa United missing several chances to further extend their lead, but their strong defense held firm, securing the victory with a final score of 2-1.
In another exciting match at the same venue, Bengaluru FC narrowly defeated Dempo FC with a score of 1-0. The first half of the match was dominated by Bengaluru FC, with Irungbam Singh creating numerous chances, including a golden opportunity due to a goalkeeper blunder, but he unfortunately shot wide.
Despite several close calls in the second half, both teams' goalkeepers remained steadfast. It was Irungbam Singh who finally broke the deadlock, scoring a crucial goal in the 48th minute, securing the win for his team.
South Goa United currently tops the table with an unbeaten run and Bengaluru FC secured second position and has secured a spot in the semi-finals of Group A.
