MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim secured their place in the semifinals of the 49th Chandor Seamen Trophy Football Tournament with a 4-3 victory in a penalty shootout against United Club of Verna, held at Chandor.
Davorlim started the match with urgency and nearly took the lead in the 4th minute when Delton Colaco's close-range effort was thwarted by the Verna goalkeeper. Despite several attacking attempts, United Club of Verna struggled to find the target.
The breakthrough came for Sporting Club of Davorlim in the 23rd minute when Reeve D'Costa capitalized on a rebound from the Verna goalkeeper to put his team ahead 1-0 at halftime.
After the break, Verna came out with renewed energy and equalized in the 49th minute. Clive Fernandes headed in a cross from the flanks, catching the Davorlim goalkeeper off guard. Reeve D'Costa missed a chance to restore Davorlim's lead shortly after, narrowly missing his second goal.
With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time, the game proceeded to a penalty shootout. Selwyn Miranda, Milton Colaco, and Agnelo Colaco scored for Sporting Club of Davorlim, while Lenon Pereira and Fulgencio Cardozo converted for United Club of Verna.
Sporting Club of Davorlim will face Curtorim Gymkhana in the semifinals. Francisco Colaco of Sporting Club of Davorlim was named Man of the Match.
