In a thrilling match at the Ugem Ground, St Anthony SC Assolda triumphed over Guardian Angel SC 3-1 in the tiebreaker to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the Ugem Rising Club Football Tournament.

The match ended in a goalless draw after regulation time, pushing the teams into a penalty shootout. During the tiebreaker, St Anthony SC showcased their composure, with Valentine Carvalho, Joaquim Carvalho, and Bryan Fernandes successfully converting their penalties. Guardian Angel SC managed to score only one goal through Baritone Fernandes.

Alrich Piexito of St Anthony SC was named the Man of the Match and received the award from Rosario Gomes, former treasurer of the Ugem Rising Club.

Goan Para players felicitated at Sanjay School

Goan para players who won medals at National Championships were felicitated in a ceremony at Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim at the hands of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte. The para-athletes who were facilitated for table tennis were Lloyd Fernandes, Patrick D'Souza, Anupa Pilgaonkar and Chetan Salgaonkar. Moises Rodrigues was honoured for Boccia, Sakshi Kale, Mahesh Pagadala and Muskan for athletics, Manguesh Kuttikar for swimming and archery, and Gopal Vishnu Kunkalekar for badminton.

“Over the years we have seen these Goan para players not only participate but win medals at national and international sporting events. It is very heartening to see their dedication and perseverance to excel in sports and bring laurels to Goa and India," Khaunte said. "The Purple Fest organised by the government has highlighted and showcased the talents and various skills of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)."
