Will FCGoa get its first win of the season at Fatorda?

Panaji: Bengaluru FC and FC Goa are ready to reignite their exciting rivalry as they meet at the Fatorda Stadium in the Indian Super League 2024-25 tonight. Both teams have previously won the ISL title, with Bengaluru FC clinching the trophy in the 2018-19 season and FC Goa taking home the League Shield the following year.

FC Goa is currently struggling at home, having gone winless in their last four matches—a record streak for the club. This lack of victories at their home ground has left fans eager for a turnaround. Head coach Manolo Marquez may provide the boost they need; he has never lost to Bengaluru FC in his eight encounters with them. His impressive record against the Blues gives FC Goa fans hope that their fortunes could change in this upcoming match.

On the other hand, Bengaluru FC is enjoying a successful start to the season. With 16 points from six matches, they are off to their second-best start in ISL history, only behind their title-winning season. The team has won five matches, drawn one, and has an impressive goal tally of 11 while conceding just one goal. Their recent form includes a commanding 3-1 victory over Kerala Blasters FC, showcasing their ability to score multiple goals on the road.

Bengaluru FC has also excelled in possession, completing 82.1% of their attempted passes, the highest in the league. Their patient build-up play has put pressure on opponents, leading to numerous scoring opportunities for their efficient attackers.

In their 15 previous meetings in the ISL, Bengaluru FC has the upper hand with seven wins compared to FC Goa's four victories, while four matches have ended in draws.

FC Goa’s coach Manolo Marquez expressed confidence in his team’s attacking performance. He stated, "The only game we played poorly was against Mohun Bagan. The match against Mumbai was even, and in other games, we have played well. Our attack is performing well now."

Bengaluru FC’s coach Gerard Zaragoza shared his defensive strategy, emphasizing their focus on preventing goal-scoring chances. "We work hard to stop balls coming into our box. If we protect our goal, we may leave some spaces open, but so far, we haven't conceded from crosses in six games," he explained.
