The much-awaited Vedanta Women’s League (VWL) 2024 kicked off with a memorable Jersey Unveiling Ceremony at the Sesa Goa Head Office in Panjim on Friday.
The event marked the official commencement of the league, which aims to provide a platform for women’s football in Goa. The participating teams for this season include Sesa Football Academy, Calangute Association, Guardian Angels SC, Livval Sports Club, Patrong Sports Club, and Maina Sports Club.
The launch event highlighted Vedanta Sesa Goa's ongoing commitment to supporting women’s football and empowering women through impactful initiatives. The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Maymol Rocky, former Head Coach of the Indian Senior Women’s Football Team and Chairperson of the GFA Women’s Committee; Anthony Pango, Senior Vice-President of the Goa Football Association; Jonathan De Souza, Vice President of the Goa Football Association; Laxman Hadfadkar, GFA Executive Committee Member, North Goa; P.K. Mukherjee, Independent Director of Vedanta Limited & Sesa Community Development Foundation (SCDF); and Navin Jaju, CEO of Vedanta Sesa Goa.
The six team captains were present at the event to proudly unveil the jerseys and logos, symbolizing their dedication and readiness for the upcoming season.
Speaking on the occasion, Navin Jaju, CEO of Vedanta Sesa Goa, emphasized the significance of the league: "The Vedanta Women’s League is a powerful platform that empowers young women in football while fostering their personal and professional growth. We are grateful to the Goa Football Association for giving us the opportunity to contribute to women’s football both in Goa and on the national level. Over the past seven seasons, this league has become a catalyst for change, with over 1,100 players finding a platform to showcase their talent. Initiatives like this, alongside our Computer Centre and Women’s Tailoring Centre, reflect our dedication to creating opportunities that support women’s empowerment. Since its inception in 2017, the Vedanta Women’s League has provided a platform for over 1,100 women footballers, many of whom have gone on to represent Goa and India at national and international levels. The 2024 season promises to showcase thrilling matches and inspiring stories of teamwork and resilience.
