Bhatti United Club prevailed over Fondegal Sports Club 2-1 in the 1st Caniza Peixeto Memorial 9-a-side football tournament, St. Alex Church ground in Curtorim on Friday.
Fondegal drew first blood early on, with Ruben Fernandes finding the net with a powerful volley in just the third minute. Bhatti United regrouped and found the equaliser in the 24th minute through a well-placed shot by Jovial Dias. The first half ended with the score tied at 1-1.
The second session saw both teams pressing hard for the winning goal. Fondegal nearly took the lead again in the 32nd minute, but Kevin's powerful shot sailed off target. Bhatti United then capitalised on their opponent's miss. Jovial Dias receiving a pass from Tony Dias slotted the ball into the far corner of the net in the 35th minute. Despite desperate efforts from Fondegal to find an equaliser, Bhatti United held on to secure a narrow 2-1 victory.
Ruben Fernandes of Fondegal SC was awarded the Man of the Match trophy by former Agxem SC player Sebastiao Gomes (Cameroon).
