Calangute Veterans triumphed over the Benaulim Veterans with a 3-0 victory in an exciting and hard-fought final of the All Goa 8-a-Side Veterans Tournament, organized by the UK Goans Dynamic Group, at the Dando Ground in Benaulim.
Benaulim faced an early setback when their star forward, Pele Fernandes, was forced to leave the field due to injury in the 2nd minute. Despite the blow, Benaulim regrouped, but Calangute quickly took control of the game, with their midfield trio of Robert, Markus, and Allwyn dominating possession. Calangute’s dominance was evident when Markus scored a brilliant header from a well-placed corner in the 10th minute, giving his team a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Benaulim came out strong, determined to find an equalizer. However, Calangute’s counter-attacks were lethal. Seby doubled the lead in the 40th minute, and just five minutes later, Agustin sealed the win with a clinical finish, making it 3-0. Despite Benaulim’s best efforts, they could not break through Calangute's solid defense.
The event was attended by Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, and social activist Anthony Silva, who were present as chief guests. They distributed the winner’s trophy, runner-up trophy, and cash prizes to the teams and individual players.
