Canacona Sports Club triumphed over Dicarpale Sports Club with a convincing 3-0 victory to claim the inaugural Santa Cruz Society Soccer Cup, at Poitomado ground in Cuncolim, on Sunday.
Canacona SC set the tone early, taking the lead in the ninth minute with a well-placed shot from Alric Barreto. The second half saw Canacona extend their advantage, as Barreto skillfully chipped the ball over the onrushing Dicarpale goalkeeper in the 46th minute, making it 2-0. Barreto completed his hat-trick in the 60th minute, sealing the match at 3-0.
During the event, young football talents from the village, Ronald Gaonkar (Sesa FC) and Saesh Gaonkar (FC Goa), were honored for their potential. The best defender award went to Darmin Carvalho of Dicarpale SC, while Earl Fernandes of Canacona SC was recognized as the best goalkeeper. Alric Barreto was named the Best Player of the Final.
Yuri Alemao, Leader of the Opposition and MLA for Cuncolim was the Chief Guest and presenting the winner's trophy alongside Rev. Fr Domnic Savio Rodrigues and other dignitaries.
Canacona Sports Club received a trophy and a cash prize of ₹40,000, while Dicarpale Sports Club took home the runner-up trophy and ₹30,000.
