MARGAO: Canacona Sports & Cultural Club defeated Navelim Sporting Club 1-1 (5-3 on penalties) to secure a spot in the finals of the Marcus Mascarenhas (Mark) Memorial Trophy tournament, organized by Sarzora Sports Club at Chinchinim Church Ground on Wednesday.
Navelim struck first, with Ronaldo Pereira scoring in the 13th minute. However, Canacona fought back in the second half, equalizing through Shayne Alfonso. With the match ending in a draw, the winner was determined by a penalty shootout, where Canacona emerged victorious, converting 5 out of 8 attempts to Navelim's 3.
Earl Fernandes, the goalkeeper for Canacona Sports & Cultural Club, was awarded the Man of the Match by Wilfred Pereira, a journalist from Sirlim, for his standout performance in the tie-breaker.
