Canacona Sports & Cultural Club claimed victory in the Marcus Mascarenhas Memorial All Goa 8-a-side Inter-Village Football Tournament, defeating Dunes Sports Club of Mandrem 4-2. The tournament was organized by Sarzora Sports Club and took place at the Chinchinim Church ground on Wednesday.
Ronaldo Oliveira was a standout performer for Canacona SCC, scoring two goals, while Yamnursab Pinjar and Chaitan Komarpant each added a goal. For Dunes SC, Pranesh Asvenkar and Sectus Britto found the net once each.
As champions, Canacona SCC took home ₹40,000 along with the trophy, while Dunes SC received ₹30,000 and a trophy for their efforts. The awards were presented by chief guest Padmashree Awardee Brahamanand Shankwalkar, alongside distinguished guests including Cruz Silva (MLA, Velim), Altone D'Costa (MLA, Quepem), Avertano Furtado (Ex-Minister), and Edwin Cardozo (ZP Navelim).
Other notable attendees included Franky Viegas (Sarpanch, VP Chinchinim), Anthony Pango (Senior Vice President, GFA), Savio D'Silva (South Goa District President, Congress Committee), Fr. Patrick Furtado (Our Lady of Assumpta Church, Sarzora), Fr. David Fernandes (Assistant), and Gaston Dias (Former Assistant Director, New York University), along with various club officials.
Individual awards were also presented, with Chaitan Komarpant of Canacona SCC named Man of the Final, Earl Fernandes of Canacona SCC awarded Best Goalkeeper, Pranesh Asvenkar of Dunes SC recognized as Best Striker, and Alberto Britto of Dunes SC named Best Midfielder.
