MARGAO: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club prevailed over Fr Agnelo YSC Proda 3-2 to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Marcus Mascarenhas Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Sarzora Sports Club, held at the Chinchinim Church ground, on Tuesday.
Alric Barreto made a strong start for Canacona, scoring two quick goals in the 8th and 10th minutes. However, Fr. Agnelo YSC Proda responded with equalizers from Sloawn Clement and Macloyd D’Costa, leveling the match.
As the second half unfolded, Chaitan Komarpant netted the decisive third goal for Canacona Sports in the 38th minute, solidifying their lead.
Alric Barreto was named Man of the Match, receiving the accolade from Valentino Baratto, the former Sarpanch of Chinchinim.
