Curtorim Gymkhana claim Gold Silver inter-village title

MARGAO

Curtorim Gymkhana triumphed over Santa Cruz Society Poitomado Cuncolim in a dramatic 3-0 victory via tiebreaker to secure the championship of the Gold Silver Inter-Village Football Tournament, organised by Navelim Sporting Club, at the Rosary Church ground in Navelim on Wednesday.

Both teams showcased their offensive prowess, with Santa Cruz's Daulat Dessai and Vayne Pires causing problems for the Curtorim defense. However, the Gymkhana's backline remained resolute throughout the match. Despite several missed opportunities from Rhay Dias and Anselm Fernandes for Curtorim Gymkhana during regular play, the game remained goalless, leading to the tiebreaker.

In the penalty shootout, Curtorim Gymkhana's Fredy Hilario, Rhay Dias, and Gilbert Fernandes all converted their shots successfully, while Santa Cruz Society failed to find the net with any of their attempts.

Curtorim Gymkhana walked away with a prize of ₹60,000 along with a sparkling trophy, while Santa Cruz Society took home ₹40,000 and a trophy for their efforts. The awards were presented by former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro, who was the chief guest at the event. He was joined on stage by notable figures including Gabriel Coutinho, parish priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Dr. Caetano Fernandes, president of the GFA, and other dignitaries.
