Dempo Sports Club delivered a spirited performance to record a 2-0 victory over CD Salgaocar in the Goa Professional League on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles, comprising mostly U-20 players under Coach Remus Gomes, caught CD Salgaocar off guard with their energetic display. The visitors were forced to rethink their strategy midway through the match.
The first half ended goalless, with Dempo's Arnold and Asmon Viegas testing CD Salgaocar's goalkeeper early on. However, neither side managed to break the deadlock.
The second half witnessed a surge in intensity from Dempo SC. Stenis' pinpoint delivery found Mevan Dias, who nodded home the opener in the 56th minute. Asmon doubled the tally in the 78th minute, capitalizing on Shreyash's incisive run and low pass.
CD Salgaocar's Reezvon Fernandes stood out, but his individual brilliance couldn't salvage the outcome. Despite their efforts, the visitors were outplayed by Dempo's youthful exuberance.
Coach Remus Gomes returned to the helm of Dempo SC's developmental side after Coach Samir Naik began preparations for the I-League with the senior team. This change forced CD Salgaocar to undo their plans and adapt to the new squad.
