FC Goa secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vasco SC in the Goa Professional League clash at Tilak Maidan on Friday, courtesy of a second-half stunner from Tomba. Despite going down to 10 men late in the game, the Gaurs’ defense held firm to claim all three points.

FC Goa’s Akash Oraow stood out in the early exchanges, dazzling down the left flank before setting up Likson Rebello, whose low strike lacked the power to trouble the Vasco custodian.

As the first half progressed, FC Goa continued to carve out chances. Saish Gaunkar found himself in a one-on-one situation after a brilliant through ball from Akash Oraow, but Vasco's goalkeeper reacted swiftly to deny the effort. Vasco had their moments too, with Sereno Noronha teeing up Sapam Meitei for a low drive, only to see FC Goa’s keeper make a crucial save to keep the game goalless at the break.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 48th minute. Aaksh delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Tomba on the left flank, who weaved his way into the box before unleashing a sublime strike into the top right corner. FC Goa nearly doubled their lead when Mervin Fernandes set up Akash for a first-time shot, but his effort rattled the woodwork.

Vasco came agonizingly close to an equalizer when Sapam Meitei floated an inviting cross to the far post, but Omkar Gaunkar failed to make the decisive connection. Late drama unfolded as FC Goa’s Shawn Fernandes was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for handball. Despite the numerical disadvantage, FC Goa’s defense stood resolute to see out the narrow win.

In the day’s other fixture, Cortalim Villagers thumped Goa Police 4-1 at Duler Stadium. Shario Gomes led the charge with a brace, while Jaison Vaz and S Navaneeth added their names to the scoresheet. Rui Noronha managed to pull one back for Goa Police, but it was little more than a consolation as Cortalim cruised to victory.
