The Forca Goa Foundation successfully celebrated AFC Women’s Football Day and International Women’s Day with a series of engaging initiatives aimed at promoting women empowerment in football. The event witnessed participation from over 50 individuals, including young footballers, parents, coaches, and volunteers, who came together to celebrate the progress of women in the sport.
The event featured football matches, workshops, and interactive sessions, highlighting the importance of equal opportunities for women in football.
Nathaniel Da Costa, Head of Grassroots Football at Forca Goa Foundation, emphasized the growth of women’s football in Goa, stating, "Women’s football in Goa is gradually progressing, there is still a long journey ahead. At Forca Goa Foundation, we are doing everything we can to create a safe and inclusive space for young female footballers while encouraging participation at all levels; be it as players, referees, coaches, or volunteers. Our exclusive U-13 girls’ category and mixed-gender leagues are small but significant steps in this direction. However, to truly develop the women's game, we need greater support and collective efforts to build a strong, sustainable ecosystem for the future."
The day’s highlight was undoubtedly the matches that displayed the raw talent and passion of young female footballers. St. Thomas High School and El Shaddai faced off in an exciting encounter, demonstrating the high level of skill and teamwork present. Later, the FC Goa Football School clashed with Laxami Prasad SC, further amplifying the excitement and displaying the depth of talent in Goa.
As a symbolic gesture to celebrate the participation of young female footballers, the Foundation distributed T-shirts to all the girls, reinforcing the message that they are an integral part of the football community.
