Fr Agnel YC of Paroda defeated Carmona SC 7-6 via the tiebreaker to enter the quarterfinals of the 41st Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC and played at Padribhat football ground on Sunday.
The teams were tied 2-2 at full-time. Aswin Fernandes and Joy Fernandes netted for the Paroda team while Rohan Ferrao and Dezwin Dias scored a goal each for Carmona SC. In the ensuing tiebreaker, Melson Fernandes, Kanchan Kiro, Pascoal Dias, Macloyd D'Costa and Melwin Lima scored for Fr Agnel Paroda while Wilbur Matos, Stanford Ferrao, Dezwin Dias and Asley Pinto scored for Carmona SC. Melson Fernandes of Fr Agnel YC Paroda was adjudged as man of the match.
UC Chinchinim blank UC Verna 3-0
The Union of Chinchinim Villagers delivered a commanding performance, defeating the United Club of Verna 3-0 in the under-15 Khelo India girls' football tournament at Sinquetim Sports Complex on Sunday.
Keren D'Souza opened the scoring in the 31st minute, tapping the ball home with precision. Just a minute later, Analee D'Costa doubled the lead, further asserting UC Chinchinim's dominance. Substitute Acira Fernandes sealed the victory in the 35th minute, putting the result beyond doubt. Despite a strong second-half performance, UC Chinchinim could not add to their tally but continued to control the game. Their solid defence and midfield play ensured that UC Verna struggled to create any significant chances.
Curtorim Gymkhana move ahead
Curtorim Gymkhana edged past Raia Sporting Club by a solitary goal to move ahead in the Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary Church ground on Sunday.
Anselm Fernandes scored the all-important goal for Curtorim Gymkhana and he was later declared as the Man of the match.
