MARGAO: Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda prevailed over Benfica Youth Club with a commanding 5-0 victory, securing a place in the quarterfinals, in the inaugural match of the 1st Simon Barreto Memorial inter-village football tournament, organised by Maina Sports Club, at the DYSA ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
Fr Agnelo took an early lead when Ashwan Fernandes scored in the second minute. Benfica YC’s Dominic missed a chance to equalise shortly after. Fr Agnelo extended their advantage in the 27th minute, with Alfiano Fernandes scoring the second goal leaving the score at 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Fr Agnelo dominated further, netting three more goals. Alfiano Fernandes completed his hat-trick with goals in the 37th and 44th minutes, while Savio Vales rounded off the scoring with a goal in the 47th minute.
Earlier, the tournament was officially opened by Alfred Barreto, the former president of Maina SC, who also presented the Man of the Match award to Sushant Borkar of Benfica Youth Club.
