Guardian Angel SC crowned champions of 45th St Joseph Festival

Guardian Angel SC claimed victory in the 45th St Joseph Festival Football Tournament 2024, defeating Navelim Sporting Club 4-1 in a commanding performance.

From the outset, Guardian Angel dominated the match, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 10th minute with a goal from Cyril Dias. Energized by this early success, Guardian Angel intensified their efforts, and Ryan Menezes struck twice, finding the net in the 20th and 25th minutes.

The second half maintained the same momentum, though Navelim Sporting Club managed a consolation goal in the 45th minute from Ronaldo Pereira. Just five minutes before full time, Ivo Costa sealed the match with another goal, putting the final score at 4-1.

With this victory, Guardian Angel received Rs 60,000 and a trophy, while Navelim SC walked away with Rs 50,000 and their own trophy.

Individual awards: First Scorer of the Final: Cyril Dias (Guardian Angel), Best Goalkeeper of the Final: Rasal Fernandes (Guardian Angel), Best Forward of the Final: Ryan Menezes (Guardian Angel), Best Defender of the Final: Milroy Clement (Guardian Angel), Best Half of the Final: Ronaldo Pereira (Navelim), Best Player of the Tournament: Prestly Gomes (Navelim), Best Disciplined Team of the Tournament: St Anthony SC Assolda.

The prizes were awarded by the chief guest Geovani Santimano, a former national player and ex-Additional Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, in the presence of dignitaries including Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Edwin Cardozo ZP, Fr Pascoal Alfonso, Parish Priest, and Sarpanch Avita Pereira, along with other panchayat members.

The club also took the opportunity to honour SSC toppers and senior members, adding a celebratory touch to the event.
