Margao Cricket Club (MCC) advanced to the semifinals of the 3rd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy in impressive fashion, defeating the Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino by 23 runs in their quarterfinal clash on Thursday.
MCC won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a competitive total of 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Vedant Naik led the charge with a fine half-century (51), well-supported by Aditya Suryawanshi (37) and Somesh Prabhudessai (22). Vinod Wilson was the pick of the Zaino bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 24 runs.
In reply, the Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino fought hard but were eventually bowled out for 135 runs in 19.3 overs. Jay Dadmode (37), Rohit Patekar (27), and Rajdeep Fatarpekar (22) were the main contributors with the bat for Zaino. However, MCC's bowling attack proved too strong.
Samit Aryan Mishra was the star with the ball for Margao Cricket Club, delivering an outstanding spell of 4 wickets for just 24 runs in his 4 overs. He was well-supported by Sazu Naik, who claimed 3 wickets for a miserly 12 runs, and Somesh Prabhudessai, who chipped in with 2 wickets for 31 runs.
For his match-winning bowling performance, Samit Aryan Mishra of Margao Cricket Club was deservedly named the Man of the Match.
