GCA-backed camp for 10-16 year olds begins at SAG ground
CANACONA
A 25-day Summer Cricket Camp has commenced at the Agonda SAG grounds for boys and girls aged 10 to 16.
National players Dinesh Mongia and J P Yadav will lead and coach the youngsters in this Leather Ball Cricket Coaching camp, organized by the Maratha Warriors Cricket Club under the aegis of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) at SAG Ground, Agonda.
GCA Secretary Shamba Naik Desai and former GCA President Chetan Manju Dessai attended the inaugural function held at the SAG Ground on Sunday. The camp, catering to boys and girls aged 10 to 16, will run until April 30.
After inaugurating the camp, National Player Dinesh Mongia stated that the GCA has signed a 9-year contract with SAG for the Agonda ground. He added that the GCA will provide top-notch coaches and coaching facilities in Agonda itself, making it easier for children in Canacona to access quality cricket training without having to travel to Panaji.
Speaking to the media later, former GCA President Chetan Dessai mentioned that the GCA is currently looking for suitable land to establish a cricket stadium in Canacona. He also revealed plans for the GCA to open a well-equipped cricket academy in Canacona within the next five years, providing excellent cricket facilities for aspiring young cricketers in Canacona and the surrounding areas.
Guiding the youngsters and their parents, GCA Secretary Shamba Naik Desai urged parents and children to seize this opportunity to enhance their skills. He also advised parents against pressuring their children to play cricket and emphasized the importance of seeking feedback from coaches regarding their children's progress. "Cricket cannot be advanced through influence; it requires genuine dedication and talent. After the camp, please consult the coaches to assess whether your children possess the potential and talent to pursue cricket further. If not, consider guiding them towards other sports," he advised.
